I have a hug for you 🤗
Not me actually.... but Patrick Johnston
Good Morning 🌞
Welcome to another day of Joy Hour
I stumbled upon a story that warmed my heart, and I just had to share it with you. It’s about Patrick Johnston and his unique project, "The Clay Embrace of Hug Pots," at the Temple of Mediclaytion in Venice Beach. This tale of art, hugs, and healing is bound to inspire and touch you deeply.
The Magic of Hug Pots
Patrick Johnston started the Temple of Mediclaytion to create something he felt was missing in his early life—hugs. Now, he hosts classes five nights a week where students conclude their lesson by hugging their completed pot. What began as an artistic endeavor to explore the support of a hug has blossomed into a viral practice, spreading comfort far and wide.

Patrick’s Journey with Clay
Patrick’s love for ceramics started at the tender age of six. He recalls a day in kindergarten when they made clay handprints. After the teacher cut a circle around his hand, he asked for the corner scraps. Stepping out onto the playground, he felt an overwhelming joy and a sense of possibility. For the first time, he felt truly alive, as he watched the clay squish between his fingers.
From Passion to Profession
Since that epiphany, Patrick pursued his passion for ceramics, earning a degree in ceramic design from the Rhode Island School of Design. His work and unique approach have been featured in numerous publications, including the LA Times Magazine.
Why Hug Pots are Special
Here are a few reasons why Hug Pots are so special:
Emotional Connection: Each pot represents a personal journey, and hugging the pot at the end of the lesson symbolizes a deep emotional connection.
Healing and Comfort: The act of hugging the pot brings a sense of comfort and healing, making it more than just an art class.
Community Building: These classes create a supportive community where participants share their experiences and support each other.
